VIVO SIIMA Announces Short Film Awards

SIIMA, the Biggest and the most viewed South Indian Film Awards is back with its Sixth Edition and VIVO is roped in as the Title Sponsor. This year VIVO SIIMA launches a new segment for Short Films.

The South Indian Cinema comprising of the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages combined Accounts for more than 50% of the overall films released commercially in India and half of the country’s total revenues from film content.

The Southern film industries have spearheaded the Indian film industry’s transformation over the last few years and are adapting to the latest technologies as they scale newer heights in terms of content, productions and packaging.
As per smartphone and internet usage statistics, India is quickly becoming a digital-first nation where the adoption levels towards new trends are much higher. Consumer attention these days is rapidly shifting and new, lucrative routes towards using digital are building up. In times like these where opportunities for digital success are in abundance, the content creators are taking advantage of this new trend and producing content for internet.

Over the last two years more and more aspiring film makers are taking to internet to show their talent and we have observed a trend of short film makers becoming highly successful film makers. We at SIIMA would like to take this opportunity of tapping the right talent at the right time and provide them a platform where the world will recognise them.

Talking about SIIMA Short Film Awards, Adusumilli Brinda Prasad Chairperson SIIMA said “SIIMA Short Film Awards, is an initiative taken by SIIMA to bring out the talent of young film makers who are set to change the dynamics of film making with their fresh thoughts and techniques”.

Championing the cause of independent cinema Rana Daggubati said, “This initiative of SIIMA will infuse fresh blood of young filmmakers, actors, writers, and technicians into mainstream cinema. The Festival promises to support independent films and talent to return to rebellious risky filmmaking. With the active support of KWAN, the SIIMA Short Film Awards, hopes to embolden young independent filmmakers”

Having pioneered the success of the Ghazi in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil Rana further elaborated, “Short filmmakers have started moving closer to the mainstream, and large studios have started capitalizing on their success with films like Ghazi (Sankalp), Kshnam (Ravikanth Perupu), Pellichoopulu (Tharun Bhascker). The evolution of Google, Netflix, and Amazon in the content development business is encouraging for independent films, thus widening the market space for good filmmakers.”

Process:
1. SIIMA curate’s short films made by young and aspiring film makers in the four South Indian languages in the years 2015 & 2016 uploaded on various social platforms on internet.
2. Based on the views and analyzing reactions of viewers, the nominees will be finalized.
3. 5 Nominations in each category are put in front of Jury which will select the winner in each category.
4. The award winning film makers will be provided a platform to pitch their ideas to the main stream lead actors and producers at bylines of the Two days SIIMA Event.
5. The Award winning artists will be given an opportunity to be part of mainstream cinema

SIIMA Short Film Awards for Telugu & Kannada will be organized in Hyderabad and for Tamil & Malayalam will be organized in Chennai in the second week of May 2017.
