VCK party seeks ban on Srilankan film Prabhakaran

VCK party leader Thol Thirumavalavan has filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking a ban on the Tamil film ‘Prabhakaran’ made in Sri Lanka, saying it ‘denigrated’ Tamil people. Though named after LTTE leader Veluppillai Prabhakaran, the film denigrates the entire Tamil race. He had also earlier had filed a plea seeking the court’s direction to order the state government to ban this film like it proscribed Hollywood blockbuster Da Vinci Code.

The LTTE has been banned in India following its role in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991.The opposition in Tamil Nadu has accused the state government of being soft on the LTTE and allowing its apologists a free run in the state, a charge denied by the ruling DMK.
