The last few months have seen several films, including Vijay’s Thuppakki, being dragged into controversy over their titles. Recently, the Simbu-starrer, Vaalu, with Hansika, playing his romantic interest, faced trouble.
There was another film with the same title which was in the making, starring Akhil and Saranya Nag in the lead. Desika, the director of the Nikhil-starrer, was initially unwilling to compromise on the title, but has now resolved to go in for a new one, Retta Vaalu. “My story is based on a real-life character who lives in Chennai,“ Desika said at a press conference. “My hero, Akhil, is addressed as Vaalu (in the film), which means `a person who is extremely naughty’. So the title was apt. Later, when this problem cropped up and the Producers’ Council called and asked me to cooperate since the other film was apparently big, I changed my title to Retta Vaalu, because, in a way, this fits well too with the script as both the lead characters are mischievous
