Screening of Tamil films in Karnataka resumes

The screening of Tamil films came to an abrupt halt in Bangalore and Karnataka State following the dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over the Hogenakkal issue. Now the screening of the Tamil film has been resumed on a low key without any advertisements in newspapers or on TV channels.

There are no huge posters at the theatres apparently not to arouse protests again by pro-Kannada activists. ‘Santhosh Subramaniam’ featuring Jeyam Ravi and Genelia has been released in a few theatres in Bangalore last weekend to a lukewarm response. The film has turned out to be a big hit in Tamil Nadu, but has failed to get a good response here. Trade pundits say one reason may be that it is a remake of Telugu film ‘Bommarillu’, which had a successful run in Bangalore two years ago.
