Falling in line with the English movie channels like HBO, Star Movies which have home productions of films and release in their channels,SUN TV plans to produce at least 10 feature films each in three languages – Tamil, Telugu and Kannada annually through Sun Pictures, a soon-to-be-floated unit.
Sun TV is also preparing to launch its ‘home entertainment division’, to launch DVDs of the collection of regional films in its library. It also plans to tap the growing online movie download. Sun TV, is about to go on board on the production of some Tamil films through Radhika’s Radaan Media Works (P) Ltd.
Samuthirakani, director of Radhika’s popular daily soap ‘Arasi’ is to direct Sun TV’s maiden venture starring mostly newcomers. He has also directed the Venkat Prabhu-SPB Charn starrer ‘Unnai Charanadaindhaen’ besides a host of other TV serials. Raj TV is also eyeing to rope in Thangar Bachchan to direct a film for them starring Sathyaraj. Their second film will be directed by actor-turned-director T.P. Gajendran.
