Even as films with number-based titles are increasingly being made in Kollywood (think Irandam Ulagam, Oru Kanniyum Moondru Kalayum, Ettu Thikkum Madha Yanai and Rendavathu Padam, for instance), the other fad that’s catching up is to have a numerical in the title. While Dwaraki Raghavan’s By 2 and Aishwaryaa Dhanush’s 3 are some of the films that featured numbers in the title in the recent past, the trend seems to be picking up in Tamil cinema in the last few months. KT lists out some of them… Kadai Enn 6
Director Sasidharan, who’s currently helming the supernatural thriller Vaarayo Vennilave with Atta Kathi Dinesh, has already chosen the title of his next. Titled Kadai Enn 6, the film will be a thriller with a generous dose of humour. The entire film reportedly takes place in shop number six in a complex, and hence, the team has opted for this title.
SOME OF THE OTHER FILMS WITH NUMERICAL IN TITLE
Kadhal 2 Kalyanam 3 Vazhakku Enn 18/9 7aum Arivu 18 Vayasu Unaku 20 Enaku 40
While many consider the number 13 unlucky, director D Suresh has gone ahead and titled his debut film with Manoj as that. Reason? “Many are superstitious about the number and consider it unlucky, but, in the film, the number proves to be lucky for Manoj and his family, and certain incidents happen that relate to the number. So, we’ve titled our film 13,” he says.
A mind thriller directed by Sasi, the film has Bharath playing an accident survivor who is trying to piece his life together. Even as Bharath is trying to convince himself and others of the existence of his girlfriend, a chain with the number 555 helps him to rediscover the past. The relevance of the title to the film lies in the fact that it acts as a ‘chain’ linking the events.
Ethiri Enn 3
The upcoming film, directed by Ramkumar, has Srikanth playing a software engineer who’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit. As the story progresses, he finds himself waging a war against two rival dons. “When a person is arrested on charge of committing a murder, his case file is labelled as ‘ethiri enn 1, ethiri enn 2, ethiri enn 3 and so on. The film has capitalized on this situation to arrive upon the title,” a source explains.
VZ Durai’s film with Shaam has a lot of ‘6’ connections. While the actor will be seen sporting six different looks, the film has been shot in six locations across the country. What’s even interesting is that Poonam Kaur, who plays one of the leads in the film, has put on six kilos to look her part!
