In an atmosphere pulsing with thrill, barely concealed anticipation and revelry, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Jagath Rakshakan, the chief guest of the function, with a press of the remote button, officially launched Channel UFX, India’s first multi-lingual, lifestyle-music channel, at Hotel Park Sheraton, on Saturday.
The evening was marked with entertainment galore with the lifelike logo of the channel (the outstretched palm with the five fingers), dominating the stage. It started on a lively note with an enthralling jazz performance followed by a mime performed in the dark, bringing to life a smile, a frown and the channel’s logo, amongst other images. Talented and beautiful songstress Shruti Hassan, who was accompanied by her band, belted out a few racy English numbers.
An audio-visual presentation depicted the shows on the channel, giving the audience a taste of things to come. Keeping in tune with its multi-lingual identity, songs were played in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam besides Hindi and English. Shows like Classix where world-class cinema would be analyzed and debated upon, endeavoured to ensnare the cinema buffs while SaleR$ promised to be panacea for shopholics. FEWS would bring the best of Kollywood news and gossip while Unreserved would take the audience to exciting destinations where adventure lay awaiting.
Adding glamour to the event were film stars like Nanda, Anuja Iyer and a couple of other celebrities. Well-known figures from the Television industry also graced the occasion. To mark the occasion, mementos were handed out to the film stars and celebrities.
The man behind this creative enterprise is the head of the UF group, Dr Usma Fayaz. Channel UFX is part of the group’s media and entertainment initiative. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “We are happy to be taking a leap into the entertainment arena and there are no boundaries that we would not cross, no frontiers that we would not explore, so that we could bring our audience the best in terms of amusement and fun”. And, added that the channel would be telecast in MPEG 4 format promising crystal clear picture and sound quality.
Revealing something that had been close to his heart, Dr Usman said, “On behalf of the UF Trust which is involved in several philanthropic works and as part of our social responsibility towards the youth at large, we will be giving away awards, consisting of medals and laptops to three meritorious students, the first three rankers as represented by the Matric Board, the state board and the CBSE Board for standard tenth, besides three Anglo-Indian students who had received the highest percentage of marks in standard tenth. With regard to the 12 standard as well, the first three state board rankers and the first three CBSE board rankers will receive medals and laptops. Besides this, the schools that the first three rankers hail from with regard to each of the boards will also win a shield. We propose to hold the award ceremony for the same in the month of July. As we are a multi-lingual channel, we also plan to honour meritorious students in the other states of the south such as Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala, as well.
VJ Paloma compered the show and she later introduced the Channel VJ’s – VJ Rochelle, VJ Surya and VJ Sheriff and then introducing herself said “There’s another VJ and she is the one with the microphone”.
Shiran Mather, Head, Channel and Creatives concluded the function by thanking the audience for participating in the event and making it a grand success.
