Kuselan was officially launched on Friday (March 7, 2008) between 9.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. at AVM (New) Pillayar Temple. AFTER the roaring success of last year’s Sivaji and the much-hyped Robot waiting to be released later this year, superstar Rajnikanth is all set to act in Kuchelan, in which talented actor Pasupathy will don the lead role. A remake of the Malayalam hit Katha Parayumbol by noted actor Srinivasan, Kuchelan will be directed by popular Kollywood director P Vasu.
The Rajni-Vasu duo had earlier delivered the blockbuster Chandramukhi, which marked the star’s reentry into Tamil cinema, after the Baba debacle that saw the actor witness a dent in his otherwise unchallenged supremacy in Tamil cinema. Super star who was present on the occasion of the launch of Kuselan said that the character Ashok Raj will be a turning point in his career. He said in a lighter vein that Meena, who first acted as a child in his film and as a pair later, dons the role of a mother in this film. He quickly added with laugh that not as a mother to him.. She acts as a mother of two children.
Pasupathy, the acclaimed actor whose role as a villain in Kamal Hassan’s home production Virumaandi gained attention, would play the role of barber, a friend of the superstar, with the story broadly based on their friendship. Rajini wanted it to be Pasupathy’s film, since the talent of the latter is well known.
