Maybe it was always her calling to follow her passion in script writing and wield the megaphone one day. Yes, Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, wife of producer turned actor Udhayanidhi is debuting as a filmmaker with her film, Vanakkam Chennai. What started off as a hobby in writing has been extended, and today, Kiruthiga has completed her maiden venture, VC. “I still have butterflies in my stomach, but I cannot do anything but wait for VC’s release,“ she says.
“I have been writing from my college days, and at one point, when I got a proper script, I thought it was time that I should make a film. That’s how VC came on track. I am enjoying my work and passionate about it. It’s like a calling. I found out that being in the film industry was my ultimate aim,“ Kiruthiga tells us.
It’s not that the lady has landed herself in the f i l m industry without proper preparation.
“I did a few short films earlier. I also attended Kamal sir’s screenwriting workshop to equip myself,“ she says.
Kiruthiga says that she did her homework and had the full storyboard, with sketches of each and every shot done, before beginning the actual shooting.
Talking about her film, she says, “I think whatever I do will revolve around Chennai, be it my magazine or the film, Vanakkam Chennai. Shiva and Priya Anand play the lead pair.
The film is about two individuals -the hero who comes to the city from a village, and the heroine who returns from London, and what happens when they meet. It’s a rom-com, and you would see an unusual Shiva in VC.
Santhanam plays a key character.“
The shooting has been done predominantly in Chennai.
Kiruthiga says that she is grateful to Anirudh whose songs from VC are already a huge hit and sizzling on YouTube. “I started my project in a small way . But because of Anirudh’s music it has become huge and he has taken it to a different level.“
She is quick to clarify when asked whether it was easier to get a dream launch since she had a producer husband. “Not at all! He is not the one who gets convinced easily . I had no choice but to resort to Udhay as others were reluctant to fund my project since I had a producer in my family,“ she quips.
“I am thankful to Shiva and Anirudh who had trust in my script and came on board even before I got a producer,“ she concludes.
