The Chennai women’s International film festival is also popularly known as CWIFF The event is exclusive to throw the limelight on women in films, from directors to actors. Women have played a phenomenal role and CWIFF provided a platform for women as well as budding talent to express their creative minds in an international stature.
The end of this event is marked with a valedictory and award show held in Ethiraj College, Anna Salai on the 25th may, 2014 at 6:00 pm. The event was graced by eminent people from Tamil film industry. The chief guest of the event was Actor Mr. Aadhi who shared his view about the festival. He also said that festival of this kind specially designed woman must be welcomed as these would help women filmmakers to achieve their dreams in Tamil film industry.
Cartoonist Mr.Madhan Jury member of CWIFF said that, “Having a film festival dedicated to women is a wonderful idea. There are only a few women directors in the whole world and having a festival like this would give them an edge. Women have a lot of talent and creativity which is equal to any man, but they aren’t given ample opportunities.A few years back, a woman director won the Oscars and from henceforth there should be nothing stopping them. They should overcome the barriers and we should give them all that’s necessary for them to do so. CWIFF is a massive platform for women directors. For all those aspiring women out there who want to make it big CWIFF is their turning point!” Director Ms.Priya who is also been a jury member of CWIFF shared her experience of being a part of jury panel for the festival that, “I am privileged to be a part of CWIFF at its very first venture. I have seen so many films here each one was unique in its content and the format they taken to tel the story.”
Director Ms. Nandhini and Film Critic Mr. Satish Kumar shared their views about the film festival and they said the filmmakers that the movies unanimously close to all the jury members have been selected and been awarded and we are great to see all the movies. Totally 26 awards were given to the winners by the Chief Guest and by the jury members. Mr. UdayKumar, Festival director finally thanked Mr. Ravichandran Raj,promoter of this event who has been a great pillar for the success of this event and he thanked all the jury members, advisory members, the Chief guest, the film makers and partners who made this event a grand success and assures that the CWIFF will fly even more higher in the coming years.
