Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi found himself some time to watch Uliyin Osai in spite of his hectic schedule. This film is based on a story written by Karunanidhi during early 60s. He has been showing keen interest in making of this film.
Karunanidhi has chosen to guide the script for Uliyin Osai. He had sat long hours for story discussions, chosen the cast and guided the making of the film. This high-budget movie was produced by J Nandhini Arts on behalf of Thiruvottiyur S.P. Murugesan. This historical love story based on the story of Charappallam Chamund is set during the times of the great king Raja Raja Cholan and revolves around the fabulous Thanjai Periya Kovil and the mystery surrounding its sculptures. The film features actor Vineeth as the sculptor and Sarath Babu as Raja raja Cholan with Keerthi Chawla and Akshaya as two heroines. Illavenil would be making his debut as director.
Mr. Karunanidhi recalled Ilayaraja suggesting decades ago that the story be made into a film. It is learnt that Karunanidhi became emotional during the climax scene of this movie. Another one of Karunanidhi’s works is also under production. Thai Kaviyam, based on Maxim Gorky’s Mother, is also being made into a film.
